August at the Art Center
August at the Art Center will bring two new exhibits – The Art of War and The Gathering Artists – and the final weeks of summer camps as the kids go back to school. We’ve also got some new faces on our board of directors, and lots planned for Third Thursday in downtown Danville. We hope you’ll join us!
New ExhibitS
The Art of War
The Art of War is a powerful exhibit that explores how artists have responded to the brutality, heroism, and heartbreak of war throughout history. It will be on exhibition in our Main Exhibit Hall at 401 W. Main Street, August 5 through September 25. An opening reception is from 4:30-6 pm on Friday, August 8. Admission is free. Learn more HERE.
The Gathering Artists
Members of Danville’s longest-standing artist collective will have work on exhibition at the Art Center in August in our Main Street Gallery at 409 W. Main Street from August 13 – September 13. We will host an artist’s reception from 4:30-6 pm on Friday, August 15. Admission is free.
Pottery Studio Grant
Thank you to the Honorable Order of Kentucky Colonels for awarding the Art Center a grant to upgrade equipment in our ever-popular pottery studio! Seen here is the Art Center’s executive director, Laura Elwyn, with Kentucky Colonels Trustee General Lynn Ashton.
The Kentucky Colonel’s Good Works Program awarded $2.5 million for 2025 to 333 recipients, impacting more than four million Kentuckians! Thank you, Kentucky Colonels!
Third Thursday
Downtown Danville is the place to be for Third Thursdays, and in August, the theme is Lemons & Leftovers. Join us on Thursday, August 21, for Kids Night Out!, Brats & Brews, and Starry Night Studio.

New Additions
We are welcoming three new members to our Board of Directors!
Dr. Anthony Jones serves as the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion at Centre College, where he leads initiatives that foster an inclusive and supportive campus environment.
Dr. Jonas Hurley is an emergency room doctor with a long interest in the arts and was instrumental in establishing the ceramics program at the Art Center.
Keimya Harris has been an artist since childhood and has seen how art can inspire, uplift, and unite people. She is committed to using creativity to champion a vibrant, inclusive, and engaged community.

- Constitution Square 5K Run for the Arts is Sunday, September 14! Mark your calendars and keep an eye out for registration information soon!
- Fall Break Camp will be October 6-10. Look for some special announcements soon!
- Fall Festival at the Art Center is Saturday, October 18. Plan to join us for a day filled with arts and crafts, playtime in our pottery studio, and an outdoor artist market too!
