“The Gift” is now complete!

Periodically, Arts Center staff and volunteers provide public art to the Danville community through a mural on the windows of the Gilcher Building on Main Street. We did it last year for the Vice Presidential Debate and again during the 2013 Great American Brass Band Festival. After about three weeks of work the latest mural, “The Gift,” is now complete!

While this mural was in progress, several people came up to us and asked:

What’s this for?

Well, it’s for you! For all of us, really. Charitable giving picks up this time of year throughout the community, and programming director Brandon Long designed this as a symbolic tribute to the gift-giving season. He says:

“The mural’s theme is about how charitable giving transforms and brings color to our world. A lot of people have asked what it means, and we like to let them put their own spin on it. It’s the time of the year when people start thinking more about giving and rather than showing literal “gifts” I decided to represent the transformation through the symbol of a butterfly. The mural starts on the left with a dark forest and gets more colorful as it progresses to the right.”Check out more photos below, and let us know what you think on our Facebook page!
