The Art Center of the Bluegrass is excited to offer virtual field trips to our winter 2021 show – The Art of Being Black: Conversation and Experience. Three inter-related exhibits provide a framework for students to explore questions of identity, community, race, and self-expression.
These virtual field trips provide a robust, standards-aligned educational experience for students, whether they are learning in the classroom or from home. Students will enjoy a guided virtual exploration of the exhibit with discussion facilitated by an arts educator and will also have the opportunity to respond artistically to the exhibit.
logistics, cost, and scheduling
Format – Virtual field trips will be facilitated via live video meeting (either Zoom or Google Meets). The Art Center will provide a printed exhibit booklet/workbook for every student that contains images from the show, discussion questions, creative prompts, and other opportunities to engage with the themes of the show.
The live portion of the field trip will be conducted via Zoom meeting and will last approximately thirty minutes. An artist facilitator will discuss the exhibit with students, with emphasis placed on three key ideas:
– Experience shapes life
– Art can express experience and help foster change.
– Conversation and community can deepen understanding.
Cost – Our exhibit field trips typically cost $6 per student. We currently have funding available to waive the fee for all 4th graders. We have some additional funding for other grades on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact us to find out if we can waive the fee for your students!
Scheduling – Virtual field trips will be available from February 1 through March 31, 2021. We have a strong preference for visits to be scheduled Monday through Wednesday, but may be able to accommodate other days if needed. Contact Kate – firstname.lastname@example.org – to schedule your field trip!
