The Art Center of the Bluegrass is pleased to welcome students and educators for robust, standards-aligned educational experience. Every field trip will include the opportunity for students to create, present, respond, and connect to professional artwork exhibited at the Art Center. Students will enjoy a guided exploration of the exhibit with discussion facilitated by a professional artist and will also have the opportunity to create a piece of original artwork.
Field trips are typically 90 minutes in length for grade-level visits and 60 minutes for special education classes. For grade-level visits, we can accommodate up to 50 students. We provide at least 2 art educators and encourage as many engaged adult chaperones as you can bring!
Admission is $6/student, $3/adult chaperones & home-school parents. Classroom teachers, aides, and bus drivers attend free. Field trips for 2nd and 3rd graders and all students with disabilities are free.
The calendar below (scroll below the exhibit descriptions) shows what times are already booked. Our preference is to schedule field trips at 9am, 11am, and 1pm – but we can accommodate other times if needed! Click here to schedule your field trip using our online form. If you have questions, please contact Dionna Baker at firstname.lastname@example.org or 859.236.4054.

Horizon: Contemporary Landscape
September – November 2019
This exhibit introduces students to the fundamentals of landscape art. Because it is a contemporary show, it often challenges students to re-think their understanding of this style. The hands-on project is a mixed-media landscape.
New Year New Art
January – February 2020
The focus of this exhibit is on artistic identity – how do we reflect our identity through the artwork we create? The hands-on project often takes the form of a self-portrait or other personal expressive piece.
We can also facilitate “special projects” field trips around a subject of interest to your students. For example, a class of 4th graders created wooden block self-portraits as part of a larger unit on diversity. The cost-per student for special projects is $8 for students in all grades. Let us know what interests you, and we’ll create something fun together!
