Poetry Connected

inspired by nature

Join us for an evening of poetry, art, and community at our first Poetry Connected event on April 22, 2022 from 6:30-8pm. The theme for the event is “inspired by nature,” and poets are asked to respond to the Art Center’s exhibit of contemporary nature art by Louisville artist Sabra Crockett, which will be on display March 23-April 28. This event will be taking place on Kentucky Writer’s Day and Earth Day!

Performing poets may share up to two poems, inspired by the artist’s statement and/or pieces from the show, which runs March 23 to April 28, 2022. A virtual gallery will be available on the Art Center website beginning March 23. The event is free to the public and open to poets of any age. Pre-registration is required for performing poets, and can be done by emailing our Program Director, Leigh Jefferson, at leigh@artcenterky.org.

Sabra Crockett’s Artist Statement: “I am fascinated by the tragic beauty of nature. There is a secret language to it that I am still trying to decipher. It is a feeling I get when observing the birds, animals, and trees around me. The feeling that I am experiencing something that is so familiar, and yet so extraordinary. The art of survival, I suppose. I see the struggles, the triumphs, the perseverance, and the failures. I feel a connection to it all. I find my humanness in nature.”

Artist-in-residence Yolantha Harrison-Pace will serve as emcee for the evening, and the event will take place in the Art Center’s outdoor space, weather permitting.
