Paint the Park is July 3

The second annual Paint the Park is on Friday, July 3, from 9 am to 1 pm.

The Art Center and Danville-Boyle County Parks & Recreation are excited to provide an art-making experience for the whole community in the beauty of Millennium Park, as a kickoff to the Independence Day weekend and the celebration of America 250!

A $10 registration fee includes tempera paints, brushes, and supplies. On July 3, we will Paint the Park by creating art in 200 4ft x 4ft squares in Millennium Park. Register online or by visiting the Art Center at 409 W. Main Street in Danville. Registration can also be made by phone at 859-236-4054. 

Paint your square with whatever you like – show your support for school and sports teams, paint a portrait of your pets, or paint something patriotic for the July 4 holiday. It’s a great art-making time for the entire family!

Her Story Studio

A workshop with Licia Priest

In “Layered Reflections”, on exhibition at the Art Center through July 25, Louisville artist Licia Priest brings together verre églomisé and paper tole to explore the interplay of diversity and commonality in human experience. Her practice bridges traditional craft techniques and contemporary fine art, combining painting, paper tole, and photographic manipulation.

Priest explores reverse painting on glass, investigating the idea of what lies beneath the skin through richly colored, textural surfaces. Her portfolio includes studies of anatomy and abstract compositions filled with pattern and symbolism. She will teach this technique in a three-day workshop, sponsored by the Kentucky Foundation for Women. 

Licia Priest will guide participants through her artistic process, helping them explore how personal experiences, identity, ancestry, and lived experiences can be expressed visually. Participants will begin with guided reflection exercises focused on storytelling and narrative development. They will be encouraged to consider personal memories, family histories, cultural influences, and experiences that have shaped who they are. Through discussion and visual exploration, participants will begin translating these stories into artistic form.

Summer Ceramic Workshop Series

Sculptural Additions with Jeff Alexander

Explore the historical precedent behind adding clay elements to thrown pots, and develop a personal expressive vocabulary in this hands-on two-day Ceramic Workshop with Jeff Alexander.

Jeff is a former instructor of sculpture, design, drawing, ceramics, and art history at Kentucky State University. He studied art at the University of California at Santa Barbara and Ohio State, where he received a master’s in fine arts. He practices multimedia art-making, including ceramics, functional design, and furniture-making.

Bob Ross Painting Class

Join certified Bob Ross instructor Shane Morrow for our monthly Bob Ross Painting Class. Learn the wet-on-wet oil painting technique made famous by Ross, in a supportive, hands-on class. All materials are included, no experience required!
