New Exhibits
Dragon Fire I
Exhibit: May 1 – June 5
Opening Reception: Friday, May 1, 4-7 pm
Grand Hall Gallery
The inaugural firing of the Dragon Fire Anagama Kiln in mid-April was a testament to teamwork and a great success! The kiln has cooled and the pots have been pulled from the ashy remains of a week-long fire. They will be on display and on sale in the Grand Hall. Come and see the work of local and regional potters and their rewards for keeping the fire burning.
No Hate in My Holler: Reflections on Identity
Exhibit: April 18 – May 16
Closing Reception: Saturday, May 16, 2-4 pm
Main Street Gallery
This exhibit features the work of young women who participated in a three-day workshop with nationally recognized painter, muralist, and printmaker Lacy Hale. This free workshop was funded by the Kentucky Foundation for Women.
The Impatient Artist – A collection of sketches and paintings by Connie Estes Beale
Exhibit: May 19 – June 25
Opening Reception: Friday, May 22, 4:30-6 pm
Main Street Gallery
There is something very satisfying about capturing an image quickly. Whether it’s an expression on a face, a moment of light that quickly moves on, or a movement soon stilled, being able to make that moment last is fulfilling as an artist. Connie Estes Beale says many of her better paintings and drawings are done spontaneously. “I think, as artists, too often we labor too long and lose the spark that intrigues.”
Summer Programs for all ages
The Art Center has lots to offer this summer for kids and adults!
Register now for our Art Exploration Summer Camps – Full and half-day camps, camps for tweens and teens, and preschool camps begin on June 1!
This summer, the Art Center is pleased to announce our Summer Ceramic Workshop Series for potters and ceramic artists! These two-day weekend workshops explore altering, sculpting, and firing techniques. Led by Buddy Dobbins, Jeff Alexander, and Jonas Hurley, these workshops will take your pottery game to the next level!
Her Story Studio is a three-day workshop with Licia Priest, an interdisciplinary artist from Louisville whose artwork bridges traditional craft techniques and contemporary fine art, combining painting, paper tole, and photographic manipulation. Explore how personal experiences, identity, ancestry, and lived experiences can be expressed visually.
Plus, we have Bob Ross Painting Classes, Starry Night Studio on location at Bird’s Nest Brewing Company, and more!
