9/11 Memorial Artifact Installation

The Art Center of the Bluegrass is facilitating a Request for Qualifications on behalf of the City of Danville for a public art sculpture.

As part of the new 6-million-dollar fire station construction project, funds have been allocated for a public art piece to be featured in the First Responders Memorial Plaza in front of the new facility.

The piece will be a memorial to the victims of 9/11 and will incorporate a 13“x 13” metal artifact from the World Trade Center site of 9/11. The artist can choose how to incorporate the artifact into their work.  The Plaza will be a tribute to the service and sacrifice of first responders lost in the line of duty, both locally and in the aftermath of 9/11

More than 2,600 artifacts have gone out to honor those fallen in 9/11.  Some have been made into public art memorials and art pieces, others are being exhibited, but all are being used to honor and remember those who gave their lives.
