How to Participate
Interest in the anagama kiln is high, so in order to have pottery included in the firing, participants must sign up for work shifts to earn space in the kiln. This includes loading, stoking shifts, wood-cutting and work days at the kiln site.

When working at the kiln, participants must sign in and submit their hours. One hour of work equals one point.

30+ points = first loading group
20-29 points = second group
10-19 points = third group
0–9 points = remaining space available
Points may be purchased for $25 per point.

All work may not get into the firing, but every effort is made to be fair with the available space.

Pottery must be made with Cone 10 clay that has been bisque fired. There will be some glazes available, as well as some flashing slips. Participants are required to glaze and apply wadding to their own pottery before loading.

Schedule
FRIDAY & SATURDAY
Participants must bring their pottery to the kiln site, glaze and apply wadding to their pieces, and help load the kiln.

SUNDAY
Candling – 1 person needed per shift

MONDAY & TUESDAY
Three people needed per shift

WEDNESDAY – FRIDAY
Four people needed per shift

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 17
All participants are required to come for unloading

Once you have contacted us with your interest, you will be added to our email list for anagama firings. Through this list, you will be informed about dates and times for work days, and notified when the sign-up platform for shifts is open.

Be prepared to move and stack firewood, clean and organize kiln furniture, and keep the kiln area tidy. During firing shifts, bring work gloves and wear protective clothing and closed-toe shoes. The work can be hot and smoky.

You can make arrangements to camp at the kiln site. Meals are prepared throughout the firing, and community is built through sharing this unique experience.
