Ceramic Studio
The basement at 401 W. Main Street is home to a large ceramics studio. We host regular classes for adults, including six-week wheel-throwing classes, one-time wheel-throwing workshops, date night pottery, and hand-building classes.

Anagama Kiln
The Dragon Fire Anagama Kiln was built in the early 1990s by Stephen Powell, Mack Jackson, and a group of Centre College Students. This Japanese-style cave kiln is fueled by wood and holds hundreds of pots. A firing that takes nearly a week of constant monitoring to achieve.
The first firing was held in April 2026, after restoration by a team of volunteers, led by Jonas and Julie Hurley, with help from Corning, Chris Smith, Doss & Horky, Inc., Sellers Manufacturing, Henry and Walter Hurley, Chris and Mary Conley, and a group of dedicated volunteers.
The labor-intensive process requires the assistance of a large group of people to keep the fire going for 5-7 days, creating an opportunity for ceramic artists and enthusiasts to gather and participate in this unique creative experience.

Studio Membership
Art Center of the Bluegrass welcomes up to 15 experienced potters as members of our communal Ceramics Studio. Interested potters must complete at least two full-length six-week classes at the Art Center in either hand-building or wheel-throwing with one of our instructors or submit examples of work and a description of relevant experience before applying for membership.
The monthly membership fee of $50 provides access to the Arts Center’s Ceramics Studio, use of communal tools and glazes, and access to our kiln. Firing fees are assessed based on the weight of pieces. Download an application HERE.
