New Exhibits
We have two exhibits opening this month, with a reception for both from 4-6:30 pm on Friday, May 2. “The Beautiful Era” features advertising posters from the turn of the Twentieth Century, and “Sharing A Vision Through Photography” is a solo exhibition by Laura Zecchin.
“The Beautiful Era” is an exhibition of art from the collections of Jonas and Julie Hurley and an anonymous local collector featuring lithographs by Alphonse Mucha, Jules Chéret, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Théophile Steinlen, and Pierre Bonnard. These works will be on display May 2 through June 9 in our Main Exhibit Hall at 401 W. Main Street in Danville, Kentucky. Admission is free. Read more HERE
“Sharing A Vision Through Photography” features a sampling of equine photography, nature and landscapes, and artsy subjects by Laura Zecchin. This exhibit will run April 30 through May 31 in our Main Street Gallery, located at 409 W. Main Street. Admission is free. Read more HERE
Pottery
Our next Beginning/Intermediate Pottery Class meets on Thursdays from 6-8 pm from May 1 through June 9. Learn to throw on the wheel with instructor Jonas Hurley. Register HERE
Silent Reading Party
Silent Reading Party is a time to come together with other book lovers, read, and enjoy the vibes at Murrini Café. In partnership with Plaid Elephant Books, the ticket price includes a beverage and gift certificate for your next trip to the bookstore. Join us from 7-9 pm on Friday, May 2. Register HERE
Lunch with the Arts
Lunch with the Arts will be held from 1-2 pm on Tuesday, May 6, in our Main Exhibit Hall at 401 W. Main Street. “Navigating Tradition and Modernity through Art in South Korea; Reflections from a Winter Abroad” is a discussion with Dr. Bosco Bae and Centre College students Nolan Johnson and Cara Taylor. Art Therapy
Art Therapy for Neurodivergent Tweens and Teens will be held on Thursday, May 8 from 4-6 pm, followed by Art Therapy for Adults from 6-8 pm. Led by a licensed art therapist, these sessions teach creative ways of expression in a safe environment. Register HERE for Tweens, register HERE for Teens, and register HERE for Adults.
Mother’s Day Tea
Treat Mom to a traditional tea service at Murrini Café at our Mother’s Day Tea. We will host two tea services on Monday, May 12. Kids Night Out!
Downtown Danville’s Third Thursdays start in May, which means the return of Kids Night Out! Drop the kids off at the Art Center from 5-7:30 pm on Thursday, May 15, while the grown-ups enjoy all that downtown Danville has to offer. The theme is Retro Rewind, and we will have crafts for the kids, and dinner is even provided. Register HERE
Bob Ross Painting Class
When Bob Ross said, “I think there’s an artist hidden at the bottom of every single one of us,” he was talking about YOU! Learn to paint in the iconic style of this television master in our Bob Ross Painting Class from 1-5 pm on Saturday, May 17. Our certified Bob Ross instructor Shane Morrow will lead you every step of the way. No experience necessary, and all materials are provided. Register HERE
Sourdough Crash Course
Join Hannah Rubsam of Honey’s Homestead micro-bakery in Berea for a Sourdough Crash Course from 6-7:30 pm on Saturday, May 31. Hannah will walk you through everything from the origins of sourdough to the finished product. Leave with your own thriving organic sourdough starter and all the knowledge you’ll need to make your own loaf. Register HERE
Mini Maker’s Club
Don’t forget – every Friday in May and the first Saturday of the month, we offer our Mini Makers Club! It’s a special time for kids 0-5 and their caretakers to come and play, create, and explore in our Art Lab Classroom.
